The Amazing World of Conic Sections
A Conic Section is formed when a cone is cut with a plane.
A circle results if the plane is parallel to the base of the cone.
An ellipse results if the plane is at any other angle and the resulting intersection is still a closed curve.
A parabola results if the plane is perpendicular to the base.
A hyperbola results if the plane is at any other angle and the resulting intersection is an open curve.
You can view the four types of conic sections here by clicking the appropiate button. The 3d button will work only if you have red/blue glasses. These can be purchased from reel3d. The drop-down list has 4 choices. When one is selected the slider alters that parameter.
Depth - (works with 3d only) use the to move the cone into or out of the screen.
Perspective - use this to change how mush perspective the cone has.
Speed - change the speed the cone rotates if it is spinning.
Split - (works in 3d only) use the to emphasize the 3d nature of the cone.
