September 9, 1999 - Paint & other fun stuff

OK everyone...don't go into shock.  I know it's only been 4 days since my last update and that you'd expect me to wait another few weeks before posting the latest pics.  But hey!  Since we sweet-talked the administration into not teaching classes on Friday, my end of the week really begins today.  (Yes, I do have a faculty meeting at 10AM and office hours from 11AM-1PM, but that's a lot less stressful than having to prepare and teach a class or two.)

In case you're wondering, no, the painters did not start on Monday (Labor Day).  But, they have primed & painted the walls and moldings.  They still have quite a bit of work left though.  Plus there have been a few deliveries to the house - as you will see below.

They painted all right!  Right over my door knob.

Actually, that's not quite true.  The trim guys decided to install some door hardware to seal the house a bit better.  So this is just a knob he had in the truck.

It started raining around the time I got to the house, and I headed for the front door.  The only problem is that it was LOCKED!

This is why I didn't just go in the garage.  And yes, the door will be painted to match the exterior...
So I headed for the back porch and to the french doors.  Yeah, the door knob was painted too, but at least it wasn't locked.

The trim guy refers to this as "a hardware upgrade".  (Go to the previous page and see how the door was secured before.)

Yay!  The new cabinets are here, the new cabinets are here!
More cabinet stuff.  But at least you can see the tones we're going with.  The dark (cherry) stuff goes into the Master Bathroom, the medium (golden oak) is for the other two bathrooms, and the lightest (pickled maple) is for the kitchen.
Bifold doors!   Freshly painted!  Love the smell!
The right hand side of the entertainment center area.  Our actual entertainment center will fit into the opening.  On the right side is a prebuilt shelf.  There's a matching one on the other side.
What will be my network hub.  But since they painted over the floor, you can't see where it used to say "DATA" anymore.  Oh well - at least I have a photograph.
Yes, it's a big pile of dirt.  Specifically it's the fill dirt.  It's also a big problem.  Underneath all that dirt is where the septic tank is supposed to go.  Oops!

Next week things will really get busy.  The cabinets have to go in and the tile folks will be out as well.  The painters have the fun task of sinking & filling on all the moldings and panelling on the back porch as well.  (They're pissed off at the framers, who did not bother to sink the nails in the panelling very well.)
