September 5, 1999 - Trim

Well, a lot has happened since my last update to this site (which was actually 6 weeks ago).  The biggest news is that according to our builder, the two potential trouble points were the roofing & plastering.  (Hence the horde that descended & plastered the house in two days.)  Based on what we've been told, we can expect the house to be completed 4-6 weeks after plasting is complete.  Plastering was finished on August 23, so we're hoping that the house will be completed by the first week of October.  Looks like the UF/FSU game party is still on...

Since the plastering, the trim guys have been at work.  I thought the house looked nice after plastering, but, being a "wood type" person, the addition of even paint-quality wood trim makes the place look even nicer.  The doors are in too.

Oh, I forgot to mention soffets.  The framers came by and put these in late last week.
The french doors to the back porch - installed & framed.  Not quite finished though.  The plasterers made the opening too big, so they'll have to come back & fill in around the framing.

Both the front & garage entry doors have magnetic weather-stripping that keeps them closed.  No such luck with the french doors, so Joe improvised a fastener with what was laying around...

OK, everyone lean your head to the left.  My "evaluation copy" of Paint Shop Pro expired last week and I don't have any software that will allow me to edit a .jpg file.  So until I download some new software, you'll just have to deal with it.

Since the plasterers came in, the mosquitos have been absolutely horrible.  (Our theory is that they are attracted to the white walls.)  Joe & one of the trim guys wandered around clapping the other day.  It wasn't because they were appreciative about the work being done - they were killing mosquitos.  Hence the giant can of "Deep Woods OFF!" left on the kitchen counter.

The master bathroom side of the laundry chute.  You have to admit that the framers are doing nice work...
The dining room with chair rail.  Kind of funny that I have a lot of shots of the dining room considering that it will be one of the last rooms to be furnished...
The pass-through between the den & the family room.  Somehow, I think my days of playing on the computers and watching TV will be coming to an end...
Once again, lean your head to the left.  This is the opening for the entertainment center.  The very thin door will allow Joe access to the rear of our home theatre components.
The framed & plastered closet in Sarah's room (I think).
More trim work actually.  We want a fluorescent fixture in the kitchen, but hate the standard type.  So the trim guys agreed to build a frame to cover a standard 4 bulb-fixture.  So they slapped up a bit of crown moulding and then some standard trim.  Once the fixture is in, a piece of plastic will cover the ugly bulbs.  Joe's going to duplicate this in our current kitchen to cover the bulbs now visible when the plastic covering it became brittle due to age.  (And broke when we replaced the bulbs.)

Next up - Interior Paint...  Nothing really exciting there; the entire house will be white except for the dining room which will have some wallpaper.  The painters say they'll be out on Monday.  Neither we nor the builder expect to see anyone working at the house on Labor Day...
