Mobitz II heart
block occurs when there are occasional
interruptions of the conduction system at the AV node. This
interruption can be quite sudden and is characterized on the ECG
by a series of non-conductive P-waves. The SA node is
transmitting an electrical impulse, but it is being the
blocked at
AV node. This type of heart block is dangerous because it can
either develop into third degree heart block or the rate may
become bradycardic. Causes for this type of heart block include
toxicity of drugs, MI and cardiac diseases. Mobitz II is also
usually associated with a wide QRS complex.
